Your Favorites for 2006 and 2007 Wish Lists

I am in panic mode right now. Working hard to add hours to the day. Trying to arrange a cell phone for a couple weeks. Figuring out what to do in my limited time in Kansai. Hope I can make it to the Kyoto International Manga Musuem but I don't have too much time out west this year. Still got to provide a couple Countdown updates... AoD stuff... ¡¡Caramba no se que hacer!!

Any who I wanted to ask another favor of you all. The MangaCast might seem to be a project run by 6 or 7 manga loving entities. The truth is that we are nothing without your help. And we appreciate all the email, responses, shoutouts and the handshakes we get from all you over the months and years we have done this.

So we want to give you all a chance to share your favorites of the year. At the end of the year I will compile the lists and share them with the readers for prosperity sake.

What I want from you are a couple lists:

1) Your ten favorite manga of 2006. They don't need to be in order but these books have to have been released in 2006.

2) How about a wish list for 2007? I know none of you read scanlations but maybe you heard through the grapevine about a cool manga. Or maybe you are desperately waiting for an announced license to be released. Give me 5 titles for 2007. The MangaCast will promise to keep track of those books.

Send your lists to mangacast@gmail.com.

Let's celebrate the manga of 2006 and ring in 2007 with hopes for mucho mas manga!

Oh and if you need an example, here is one MangaCast staffer's 2007 Wish List (first person to guess who will get some free books, maybe even one book from that list):

Detroit Metal City
CROWS
Real
Rainbow
Homunculus

There's not many that I know who read and want REAL licensed. Probably Jarred and yet... there could be others. The other titles give the game away though. It should be Jarred's wish list.

I thought using my CROWS avatar would have thrown some of you off. Maybe if he had Addicted on there it would have been harder.

My favorite stuff released Stateside in '06:

Pheonix Vol 6
The end of Hot Gimmick
Nana
I''s
Dragon Head
Death Note
Welcome to the NHK
BLAME!
Abandon The Old In Tokyo
Iron Wok Jan
Eden
Lady Snowblood
Ohikkoshi
Genshiken
Nodame Cantabile

(I know that's more than ten, but I'm not sure if you'd count them all, since some of them are from series that started prior to '06)

Things I would like to see:
Bokurano
Dog: bullets and carnage by Miwa Shirow
Hataraki Man or Sakuran or anything more by Moyocco Anno
Biomega (or any further Tsutomu Nihei)
More Yuuji Iwahara (particularly King of Thorns)
More Naoki Yamamoto
More Taiyō Matsumoto
For someone to finish releasing Gunslinger Girl and Ray from where ADV dropped the ball.

My 2007 Manga Wishlist
My 2007 manga wishlist:
  1. Rainbow (Rainbow 二舎六房の七人 - Rainbow Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin) - What else? Dark, gritty, brutal but yet uplifting drama. My current manga obsession.

  2. Spirit of the Sun (太陽の黙示録 - Taiyo no Mokushiroku) - Kaiji Kawaguchi's manga just won the recent Japanese Media Arts Festival Grand Prize for Manga.

  3. Pluto - Naoki Urasawa gets to play with Osamu Tezuka characters and comes out with a fantastic sci-fi thriller page turner. He's on a major roll! Monster, 20th Century Boys, and now this.

  4. Capeta (カペタ) - My most recent anime guilty pleasure. Loved the anime. Now reading the manga by Masahito Soda that the manga is based on. The manga comes with the extra racing action and dramatics associated with it and is great fun.
I'm going to cheat here...
  1. Manga by Mitsuru Adachi - Touch, H2, Rough, etc.
And there's no space left for REAL and a few other titles that I'm interested in (T_T)

Re: My 2007 Manga Wishlist
By the way, in case you're wondering whether Capeta is any good, the manga is one of the recommended manga works in last year's 9th Japan Media Arts Festival. Link to last year's Recommended Manga list.
